David J. Hensen, 89, formerly of Campbellsport, passed away peacefully with his beloved family gathered around him on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Crossroads in Mayville.

He was born in Fond du Lac on October 23, 1932, the son of Rolland and Sedonia (nee Dreifuerst) Hensen. On May 15, 1954, Dave married Phyllis Nichols at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Campbellsport.

He worked with his father in the Hensen Sheet Metal Business, the West Bend Company, Weasler Engineering, Brenner Tank, St. Joseph Convent, Jerry Mann Wood Splitting and Ziegler Machine Shop before retiring. Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping; taught hunter safety and was a very good cook. Most important to Dave was time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren; he loved them all.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; children, Sue (Dean) Backhaus of Mayville, Lois (Jim) Petersen of Campbellsport, David J (Kay) Hensen, Jr. of Birmingham, AL and Steve (Lisa) Hensen of El Paso, TX; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his siblings, Joyce (Jim) St. Mary, Dick (Barb) Hensen, Paul (Helen) Hensen and Lou Ann (Mark) Benike; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Peter; and sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Dick Thoma.

A family committal service will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at St. Matthews Cemetery with Rev. Mark Jones officiating.

The family extends a special thank you to the staffs of Community Care, Marvin Manor, Waupun Hospital, Crossroads and Generations Hospice.
