Charles E. “Chuck” Rhein
Charles E. “Chuck” Rhein, 77, of the Town of Byron, passed away on October 29, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.
Chuck was born on December 5, 1945, in Fond du Lac, the son of the late Kenneth and Jocelyn (nee Henning) Rhein.
On June 17, 1972, he was united in marriage to Mary McEniry at Holy Rosary Church in Milwaukee.
Chuck graduated from Lomira High School in 1963 and then the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1969. Chuck always had a heart for connecting with others and this led him to serve as an IFYE to Spain where he worked with families and learned to speak Spanish. When he returned home, he provided a speaking tour of his experiences for the trip sponsors.
Chuck took pride in his community. He graciously contributed his time to the service of others. In all the organizations he participated in, he served on committees and helped with various activities.
Chuck was a proud owner of Kenjo Farms, a member of the local, state and national Holstein Association, owner of Rhein Realty, and member of the Realtor’s Association. Further, he was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, where he had taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, and played guitar for various events. Chuck was also a member of the Lomira Lions for over 40 years and was honored to receive the Melvin Jones Humanitarian Award in June 2023 for his commitment to the growth and strength of the club. Chuck was also a member of the Lomira Area Chamber of Commerce. He participated in the Red Cross tour of duty at the call center in Washington D.C. for 23 days during Hurricane Katrina. He enjoyed being a member of the Lomira Sportsman’s Club and shot trap with a team of friends and his son, Kevin.
Chuck always had time for family and friends, but his grandchildren were a source of pride and joy. He liked grilling, family gatherings, boating and visiting Green Lake, and rooting on the Badgers and Packers. He was quick to take the lead on singing any song and had a way with words in leading prayers. Chuck was a devoted man to his family, his faith, and his community. He will forever be missed and forever be fondly remembered. As we mourn his passing, let us celebrate the wonderful life he lived.
Those Chuck leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Mary; two children, Jennifer (Chad) Harmsen and Kevin (Jenna) Rhein; five grandchildren, Alexus, Aidan, and Axel Harmsen, Corinn and Weston Rhein; a sister, Beth (Dr. John “Jack”) Johnson; a brother, David (Karen) Rhein; two brothers-in-law, Dr. William McEniry and William Nelson; a sister-in-law, Kathy Travanty; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Nelson; a brother, Jeffery Rhein, and a sister-in-law, Alicia McEniry.
Visitation: Chuck’s family will greet relatives and friends at Trinity Methodist Church, 300 Church Street, Lomira, on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
Service: A service for Chuck will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Trinity Methodist Church. Chuck’s final resting place will be at Ebenezer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lomira Lions and Trinity Methodist Church are appreciated.
