Ed­ward L. Kel­roy, 100, of Fond du Lac, passed away peace­fully on Sat­ur­day, April 15, 2023, at SSM Hos­pice Home of Hope.
He was born on Oc­to­ber 11, 1922, on the Kel­roy home­stead, the son of Ed­ward V. and Ethel (nee Kel­ley) Kel­roy.
He served his coun­try in the Navy dur­ing WWII from 1943 to 1946; sta­tioned on LCS 114 as a Ra­dioman 3rd Class and par­tic­i­pated in the Bat­tle of Ok­i­nawa. Ed was priv­i­leged to go on a Honor Flight to Wash­ing­ton, DC on June 20, 2009.
Ed mar­ried Shirley E. Dell­ger, on Jan­u­ary 28, 1950, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. After their mar­riage, Ed farmed on the fam­ily farm being 4th gen­er­a­tion until 1978 when his son, Jim, took over the farm; the 5th gen­er­a­tion. Ed then worked for the Lomira School Dis­trict until re­tir­ing in 1988 and started dri­ving school bus, fin­ish­ing in 2006. Ed en­joyed play­ing cards, be­long­ing to many card clubs. He was proud of his Irish her­itage and greatly en­joyed the three trips to Ire­land he took with Shirley. They loved to travel to dif­fer­ent coun­tries, states, and go on cruises.
Those left be­hind to cher­ish his mem­ory in­clude his chil­dren, Jim (Mar­lene) Kel­roy of Byron, Kathie (Lyle) Hefter of Lomira, Daniel (Terese) Kel­roy of Fond du Lac, and Mary (Mike) Kel­roy-Skel­ton of Mayville; grand­chil­dren, Brian (Dana) Kel­roy, Kevin (Lainey) Kel­roy, Brenda (fiancé, Ken Weyer­berg) Hefter, Robert (Kait­lyn) Hefter, Christie (Eric) Han­son, Kim­berly (Brad) Fahrenkrug, Seth (fiancée, Lau­ren Al­ston) Kel­roy, Ryan (Kerri) Skel­ton, Ash­ley (Tom) Holt and Allie (TJ) Radloff; 22 great-grand­chil­dren. Ed is fur­ther sur­vived by his sis­ter, Mar­garet Schmitz; sis­ter-in-law, Dar­lene Kel­roy; and many nieces, nephews, other rel­a­tives and friends.
Ed was pre­ceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley; par­ents; in-laws, George and Nel­lie Dell­ger; grand­chil­dren, Paul Hefter and Jason Skel­ton; broth­ers, Robert and John; sis­ter, Rose­mary Schmitz; broth­ers-in-law and sis­ter-in-law, Larry and Lu­cine Dell­ger, Her­bert Schmitz and Don­ald Schmitz.
A memo­r­ial Mass of Chris­t­ian Bur­ial for Ed will be held on Sat­ur­day, April 22, at 11 a.m. at Sons of Zebedee: St. John’s Catholic Church, N3683 WI-175, Fond du Lac, WI 54937. Rev. Nathaniel Mini­att will of­fi­ci­ate and bur­ial will fol­low in St. John’s Ceme­tery.
Ed’s fam­ily will greet rel­a­tives and friends from 9 until 10:45 am Sat­ur­day, April 22. at St. John’s Parish Hall.
In lieu of flow­ers, memo­ri­als are ap­pre­ci­ated to Sons of Zebedee- St. John’s Catholic Church or to St. Fran­cis Home.
