Carolyn (nee Fleckenstein) Butz, 91, of Kewaskum, passed away on May 24, 2019, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend surrounded by her family.

Carolyn was born in Chicago, IL on March 3, 1928, the daughter of the late Leo and Lorene (nee Mitzel) Fleckenstein.

Carolyn met Vernon Butz while touring with The Town Hall Players in Plymouth. They married three months later on February 22, 1949, and lived in St. Cloud before settling in Kewaskum. She was a stay at home mother until 1972 when she started as a Teacher’s Aide for Kindergarten and Special Education. Carolyn retired in 1994 and remained active in the community.

Carolyn was a long time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers Society. She was very proud of all her grandchildren, but especially proud of the triplet granddaughters who blessed her in her later life.

Carolyn is survived by her six sons and cherished daughter, Jim (Becky) Butz (Lakewood, CO), Bill (Donna) Butz (West Bend), Betty (Arthur) Pilaski (Plantation, FL), Rick (Betty) Butz (Chattanooga, TN), Ralph (Sarah) Butz (Fort Madison, IA), Gerry (Linda) Ashmore (Madison) and Dennis (Tammy) Butz (Kewaskum), seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law, Maureen Fleckenstein and Bernadette Fleckenstein.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Vernon, her parents, her parents-inlaw Killian and Elfrieda (Fritzie) Butz, siblings William Fleckenstein, Marjorie Fox and Robert Fleckenstein. Also preceding her in death were in-laws Robert (Dellie) Butz, Jewel Bybee, Harry (Mary) Butz, James Butz and one grandchild, Elaine Ashmore.

The family greeted relatives and friends at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main St., Kewaskum, on Wednesday, May 29th, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial. Father Jacob Strand officiated. Interment followed at the St. Cloud Catholic Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Kewaskum Youth Scholarships (KEYS) are appreciated.

Carolyn’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Kettle Moraine Gardens for the loving care they provided.
