Ione Elizabeth Baerwald


Ione Elizabeth Baerwald, 83, passed at her Mayville home after an extended illness, on November 25, 2020. She was born on September 19, 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Irene Youngbeck and her brothers “Butch” and Allen Youngbeck. Ione will be greatly missed by her loving and caring husband Emil Baerwald, who she married November 30, 1956. She is survived by daughters, Amy Baerwald of Grants Pass, OR; Chris and her husband, Scott Hibben, and their children, Jordan and Taylor of Mesa, AZ; Terri Baerwald, and her wife, Barb and their children and grandchildren of Gig Harbor, WA; Sue Baerwald and her wife Linn, and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Fox Lake. She is also survived by her brother, Jim and his wife, Noel Youngbeck of Beaver Dam, and their sons, Nathan and Michael. Ione imparted her love for adventure and travel to all of her daughters. She was an avid walker and would be seen out walking no matter the weather. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting many sweaters, afghans, scarves and other items for family, friends and often donated one of her creations for a raffle or bazaar for charity. A private ceremony and inurnment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Mayville EMS, St. Agnes Hospice Services and to Home Instead of Beaver Dam. Clement ‘Clem’ J. Apfelbeck


Clement ‘Clem’ J. Apfelbeck, 86, of Mayville passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020. Clem was born the son of Albert and Anna (Pecher) Apfelbeck on June 10, 1934. Clem served his country honorably in the US Army. He was united in marriage to Rose Mary ‘Rosie’ Engel on August 19, 1978, in Mayville. He worked at Mayville Metal until his retirement. Clem was a faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. In his spare time, Clem enjoyed deer hunting, spending time with Rosie at their camper in Manchester, and taking gambling bus trips. Clem is survived by his children, Paul (Lori) Apfelbeck of Theresa, Patrick (Rhonda) Apfelbeck of Mayville, Perrie (special friend Jill) Apfelbeck of Oakfield, and Tricia (Dave) Schmidt of Wild Rose; his daughter- in-law, Kim Apfelbeck of Burnett; his step-children, Faye (Bill) Coffman, Keith Frasch, and Mike (JoAnn) Engel; his 11 grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosie; son, Phil; brothers, Jim and Arvin; sister, Alberta; and step- daughter, Sandra. A private family graveside service will be held at St. Mary Cemetery in Mayville with military honors to be presented by the Mayville American Legion Post #69. Bonnie Ann (Hanson) Reetz

Bonnie Ann (Hanson) Reetz


Bonnie Ann (Hanson) Reetz was born November 30, 1933, in Watertown, to Earl and Myrtle (Hundertmark) Hanson. She was baptized on December 31, 1933, in Lebanon. Bonnie graduated from Mayville High School in 1951. She married Arland A. Reetz on October 4, 1952, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Mayville. They enjoyed a loving marriage of 68 years. She worked as a bookkeeper in the family business, Reetz Ready Mix, and later at Beaver Ready Mix. Bonnie was a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild. She was a member of the Horicon Garden Club and also enjoyed spending her time playing bridge and other card games, sewing, knitting, quilting, fishing, RV camping, motorcycling, traveling, entertaining family and friends, and spending time at their cottage near Park Falls, and winters in South Padre Island, TX, and Haines City, FL. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Arland; her son, Darryl (Sharon) and granddaughter, Mariah; her daughter, Darlynn (Chris) Katke, grandchildren, Brian (Britney) Katke, Lauren (Ben) Wilkerson, and great-granddaughter, Isla; her son, Bruce (Terri), granddaughter, Faline, great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Angel, Azaliah, Azariah, Sevyn, grandson, Kaleb, great-grandson, Keegan, grandson, Jerod, step-grandchildren, Alicia, Jessica, Joshua (Jessica) and step-great grandson, Lucas Weissenburger; her son, Brian (Judith), granddaughter, Jenna (Alex) Kreuzer, great-grandson, Gabriel, grandson, Kyle (fiancée Kelsi), and granddaughter, Erica. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Carmelita Little. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed. Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen Lutheran Church Altar Guild, Horicon. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the memorial service is being postponed. The date is yet to be determined.

Visitation:  Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 to 11 a.m.  Service:  Saturday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m.  Location:  Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo Karl Roger Krueger, 79, of Baraboo, passed peacefully at home with his wife Jean and children by his side on November 13, 2020. Karl was born at the homestead farmhouse in the Town of Ashford, to John Michael and Severa Catherine (Reisenweber) Krueger. Raised on the family farm, later he was enlisted in the National Guard, and was activated for the Berlin Crisis. At this time, he was together with Jean Arlene Luedtke of Lomira. On November 11, 1961, they were married in the chapel in Fort Lewis, WA. They celebrated 50 years on November 11, 2011, and they were able to celebrate their 59th on November 11, 2020. After his military service, the couple returned home to Ashford, where Karl worked on the family farm, and he later began a 34-year career with Wisconsin Power & Light/Alliant Energy. In the course of his career, he moved five times: Fond Du Lac, Horicon, Baraboo, Marion/Clintonville, and ending again in Baraboo, as Foreman of the service department. Together Karl and Jean traveled throughout the US and various countries in Europe. Karl had a passion for gardening and volunteering. For years to come his flowers will still be blooming. He actively volunteered and supported the Circus World Museum, Mackenzie Center in Poynette, and delivered Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Elks Club 688, American Legion Post 26 and served as Commander of the American Legion in 2013. Karl is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Ricky (Virginia), Stephen (Paula), Pamela (Mike), Karla; and grandchildren, Joshua Krueger, Asa and Konrad Krueger, and Kolin Uptagraw. Karl was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louis John; sister, Marilyn Anne; and many aunts, uncles, and many dear friends. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at Redlin Funeral Home in Baraboo. A service will be held at the Redlin Funeral Home, Baraboo, on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. Private burial will be at Ledgeview Memorial Park in Fond du Lac. Karl’s fun-loving personality, quick humor, and a love for toasting a drink with friends will be truly missed. When it is permissible and safe, there will be a Celebration of Life to toast and enjoy the memories of his life. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Agrace Hospice for the care and support they gave Karl and family. Memorials can be made to Circus World Museum in Karl’s name.

Celebration of Life Service:  November 22 at 1 p.m.  Location:  Pentecostal House of Prayer in Horicon Dale Vogt, 61, of Horicon, born November 22, 1958, was called home to his heavenly Father on November 1, 2020. He was a beloved husband to Nancy Vogt, a father to Jerome F. Vogt, and step-father to Samantha (Tom) Peek and Danielle Udelhofen (Jim), and brother to Gary (Careyann) Vogt and Tom (Teri) Vogt; uncle to Nicole, Cheyenne, Matthew, and Alyssa. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Annamarie, Phoebe, Judah, Noah, Elijah, and Henry. He is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Jerome Vogt; and brother, Randall Vogt. Dale was in the Navy, and was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran. He had a love for nature, God, his family, woodworking, and his country. He will be missed by many family and friends alike. A celebration of life service will be held at the Pentecostal House of Prayer, W3941 State Road 33, Horicon, on his birthday, November 22, at 1 pm., followed by a reception.

Vieaux, 71, of Union Grove, formerly of Horicon passed away on November 13, 2020, in Union Grove. Greg was born the son of Lawrence and Barbara (Schultz) Vieaux on November 10, 1949, in Milwaukee. He was a 1967 graduate of Messmer High School. He had worked as a barber for over 15 years and then at MEC for 20 years. MEC is also where he met his wife, Ellen. On March 8, 2003, they were united in marriage at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon. He was a member at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon, where he volunteered and helped keep the church clean. In his spare time, Greg had enjoyed golfing, body building, hunting, and archery. He was a lifetime member of the Horicon Marsh Bowman. He also loved golfing and was a member of the Mayville Golf Course. Greg loved going out for dinner, especially a good fish fry. Family was very important to Greg and he cherished the time spent with them. He loved to watch his nephews play football and visiting his grandchildren. Helping others was another important part of Greg’s life. He had 34 years of sobriety and spent countless hours being an active member/sponsor for AA, including holding meetings at Dodge County Correctional Facility. Greg will be missed by many. Greg is survived by his wife, Ellen, of Union Grove; his daughter, Cheryl (Dan) Krupp and their children, Savannah and Mary; his stepson, Justin (Sarah) Schmidt and their twins, Jay and Quinn; his sister, Karen (Tony) MacCudden; his brother, Bryan (Kelly) Vieaux; brother-in-law, Ed Barker. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, In laws, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vicki Vieaux; mother-in-law, Anna Schmidt; brother and sister-in-law, Karl and Fran Schmidt; niece, Dawn Schmidt; and his great friend, Shirley Myles. Visitation will be held on Monday, Nov. 30, from 12 noon until the service at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon. A memorial service for Greg will be held on Monday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Horicon with the Rev. Daniel Seehafer officiating. Face masks and social distancing are encouraged for the health and safety of everyone. The outdoors and the environment was important to Greg and Ellen and his family chose to have a green burial at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha. Jakob Mueller

Jakob Mueller


Jakob Mueller, 90, of Theresa, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at Froedert Hospital in West Bend when he went home to meet his Lord and Savior. He was born in September 22, 1930, in Nikinci, Yugoslavia, to Heinrich and Eva (Bittner) Mueller. Jakob and his family moved to America in 1952 and he became a proud citizen of America. Jakob served in the Army during the Korean War. In 1955 he married his sweetheart Kathy Russ in a double ring ceremony with his sister Rosi and Kathy’s brother, Nick. Jakob farmed in the Mayville area for 30 years. After his retirement, Jakob enjoyed vacationing in St Germain with his wife, sister-in-law, Helen and brother-in- law, Nick. He fished by day and had fun at night joking and laughing. Jakob was proud of his three daughters and his six granddaughters and his seven great-granddaughters and finally there were four great-grandsons in the family. Jakob is survived by his wife, Kathy, and his daughters, Hertha Lackas, Heidi (Dennis) Fiedler, Mary (Bruce) Cundy; granddaughters, Dawn (Tony) Karel, Kristina Belyeu, Melinda (Ryan) Serwe, Jamie (Ben) Schellinger, Jennifer (Robert) Parks, and Ashley Lackas; great-grandchildren, Ava, Gabriella, Kennedy, Brooklynn, Alexis, Lydia, Owen, Blake, Ronni, Knox and Kanon. Jakob is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Rosi and Nick Russ and his sister-in-law, Helen Schimpf and aunt, Mary Bittner, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son-in-law, Joe Lackas and his brother-in-law, Nick Schimpf. A private family Mass of Christian Burial will take at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Theresa on Friday, Nov. 20, with Father Justin Lopina presiding. Visitation:  Wednesday, Nov. 18, from noon to 2 p.m.  Service:  Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m.  Location:  St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy Eugene (Gene) Arthur Abraham Bauer “Otto” 89, of LeRoy passed away on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Gene was born the son of Herman and Sabina (Huber) Bauer on February 12, 1931, in LeRoy. He was united in marriage to Arlien J. Medek on August 22, 1959, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy. Gene worked for W. J. Woodruff Roofing for 45 years and then went on to join the Golden Eagles at Quad/Graphics for 11 years. He was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in LeRoy and served as a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Gene enjoyed being an umpire for baseball games and was active in the LeRoy Athletic Club. He loved to be outdoors and especially up north at ‘deer camp’ with his family. He also enjoyed Sunday morning cinnamon rolls after mass which was a tradition that Gene never missed. Family was very important to Gene and he loved spending time with them. Gene is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlien of LeRoy; his children, Lisa (Stanley) Ruplinger of Oakfield, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Bauer of LeRoy, Linda (Mike) Garriety of Lomira, and Loni (Mike) Schmidt of Mayville; his grandchildren, Kenda (Frank) Knaus, Kelsey (Matt) Brandenburg, Kayla Ruplinger, Karmen (fiancé Tyler Vander Galien) Ruplinger, Sidney, Jesse, Riley, and Amelia Bauer, Mitchell, Tyler, and Camryn Garriety, and Sabrina Schmidt; his three great-grandchildren, Ezekiel and Isaac Knaus, and Andrew James Brandenburg; his two sisters, Marion Ruddy of Green Bay and Patty Sternat of Lomira He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Willard, and Dennis Bauer; his sister- in-law, Lorraine Bauer; and brothers-in-law, Arnold Sternat and Gordon Ruddy. A Mass of Christian Burial took place on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Tom Biersack presiding. Burial took place at St. Andrew Cemetery in LeRoy. Helena D. “Bean” Smith


Helena D. “Bean” Smith, 33, of Horicon and Mayville passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, at the UW Hospital in Madison. Helena was born the daughter of Gary and Suzanne (Voeltz) Smith on November 21, 1986, in Beaver Dam. She spent her first two years of life at the UW Hospital in Madison. Bean loved the outdoors, pie and eating at Applebee’s. She will be deeply missed by her parents; her brother, Michael “Mick” Smith; and her aunts, Jill (John) Voeltz and Lynn (Dave) Pett. Helena was preceded in death by her grandparents; aunt, Cheryl Moldenhauer; and cousin, Amber Boydte. A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date.
